International Symposium on Advances in Nuclear Engineering, 2018
Nuclear science and technology applications have become a reality in the fields of power, health and industry in the country due to the efforts of scientists and engineers of Pakistan atomic energy commission since its initiation in late fifties. Today’s Department of Nuclear Engineering (DNE) of PIEAS is the center oriented to achieve academic excellence in nuclear engineering and its allied disciplines. Since, Pakistan has embarked on nuclear power and the expansion of its fields to address the future resource for sustainable development. DNE, PIEAS initiated target-oriented collaborative research projects with other scientific organizations of the country.
Scope of the Symposium
This symposium is going to cover all the topics related to Nuclear Engineering and would provide a forum where research activities of our MS students will be shared with the scientific and technical community at large. The symposium topics include:
from faculty of Chemical and Energy Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia will deliver a key note talk on “Analysis of Malaysia nuclear education system: its current status, specific features, difficulties and prospects”
Senior and Principle Researcher (Project Manager), Thermal Hydraulics and Severe Accident research division KAERI will deliver a key note talk on “Efforts for the SPACE code development and licensing procedure”

Department of Nuclear Engineering
Nuclear Engineering is the oldest department of PIEAS. The major objective of this department is to provide trained manpower for nuclear power reactors in the country. Amongst the universities of Pakistan, PIEAS is the only one, which offers degree in M.S. and Ph.D. in Nuclear Engineering. Department of Nuclear Engineering is playing a key role to produce experts in Nuclear Engineering. Department of Nuclear Engineering is doing active research in the following key areas:
Nuclear Reactor Safety
Radiological Consequence Analysis
Computational Fluid Dynamics
Nuclear Reactor Thermal Hydraulics
Radioactive Waste Management
Small Modular Reactors (SMRs)
Nuclear Knowledge Management
Reactor Core and shield modeling using Monte Carlo Techniques
Simulation of Plasma Sources
